Multimedia Information Modeling and Retrieval

Researches of the MRIM team are related to the design and experimentation of Multimedia Information Retrieval Models (IRS).

The MRIM Team is a leading research group in France in the areas of Information Retrieval and Information Access. The MRIM Team studies models and algorithms for efficient access to information contained in large, multimedia,multilingual and semi-structured data collections.

The research developed in the MRIM group is organized through 4 main axes:

• Formalisation, Models for Information Retrieval
• Development of operational models
  This axis is divided in five sub axis, linked to work on specific media:
  • Indexing and Retrieval of Structured Documents
  • Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval
  • Contextual Mobile Information Access
  • Multilingual and Semantic Access to Textual Information
  • Personalization, Information Filtering and Recommendation Systems
• Modeling Interactions among SOA-based Information Systems
• Evaluation.

We also develop specific applications based on medical data, News data, scientific libraries, etc.

MRIM has created the IPAL International Laboratory (UMI) in Singapore. This laboratory was set up first in 1998 by Philippe Mulhem who leaded it until 2003. Then, Jean-Pierre Chevallet took IPAL leadership from 2003 to 2008 and transform IPAL into an UMI.
